National Achievements

Dr. Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale has had the distinction of performing India’s first heart-kidney combined transplant and performing heart transplant for a 69 year old person (oldest man to undergo heart transplant in India). He is the 1st heart surgeon in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who did heart and lung transplantations successfully, listing him among the best Cardiothoracic surgeons in India. Dr. Gokhale did the 1st successful heart transplant, 1st successful lung transplant and 1st successful implantation of ventricular assist device as bridge to recovery of heart in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, making him the best heart surgeon in Hyderabad. So far, Dr. Gokhale has performed 50 Heart Transplantations and 5 lung transplantations Dr Gokhale did more than 16,000 open heart surgeries - adult as well as pediatric with a success rate of 98.4%.

Dr. Gokhale has pioneered the art of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic surgery for those needing multiple bypass grafts (key hole bypass surgery), valve replacements and closure of holes in the heart. He conducted many live workshops and trained many heart surgeons in India and abroad in minimally invasive heart surgery. He has one of the largest experiences in minimally invasive cardiac surgery in India.

He is conducting research on combining stem cell therapy with coronary artery bypass surgery in patients with ischemic heart disease and damaged hearts.

Dr. Gokhale established Sahrudaya Health, Medical and Educational Trust to help poor patients to undergo treatment for heart and lung problems and to educate public on prevention of heart problems. He also conducts regular workshops and conferences to educate cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in the advances in the fields of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Gokhale is invited to many national and international forums to address about heart and lung transplantations and minimally invsive heart surgery.
