Dr Gokhale’s team gets trained to use a new life saving heart assist device

Dr Gokhale’s team gets ready to implant CentriMag heart assist device: Heart failure (a condition in which heart is not able to support the needs of the body) may follow some conditions like following a major heart attack or after heart surgeries or as a result of cardiomyopathy. Some of these patients may not respond to regular treatment options. One of the options that came to India recently is using a heart assist device to support the heart- helping it to recover or till a heart is available to do heart transplantation. This device called- CentriMag (Thoratec Company, USA) was used in USA and Europe and found to help these patients for 30-45 days. On 21st of June, 2012, Mrs Carole Kelly, clinical manager-Training and Education, came from USA to help and trained Dr Gokhale and his team to have hands-on experience. For patients with severe heart failure, this can be a big boon to keep them alive.
