Lung Transplantation in Hyderabad

A Complete Overview of Lung Transplantation in India By Dr Gokhale.

Lungs form the integral part of the human body respiratory system that are located on either sides of the chest region refereed as thorax. They are in a pair with spongy texture on outer side and air-filled internally. The function of lungs is to transport oxygen from the air into the bloodstream, and to release carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the air.

There are many diseases associated with respiratory system like inflammatory lung disease, restrictive lung diseases, respiratory tract infections (upper respiratory tract infection, lower respiratory tract infection), malignant tumors, benign tumors, pleural cavity diseases, pulmonary vascular disease, and neonatal diseases.

Normally when a patient is failing to respond to the treatment for any of advanced lung diseases, lung transplantation surgery is performed to the diseased patient. Lung transplant is a surgical procedure where a diseased lung is replaced with a healthy human lung that is obtained from a donor who is declared brain dead, in some cases some parts of lungs can be even obtained from a living donor. Lung transplantation is process where lungs are replaced either partially or totally depending upon the condition of the patient. Though there are risks involved, the life expectancy of the patient who has undergone lung transplantation is increased by two to three years and will definitely enhance the quality of life for the end stage respiratory patients.

Conditions to Undergo Lung Transplantation
