Dr N Madhu Sankar, Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Global Hospitals & Health City, Chennai spoke on Heart Transplantation, while Dr Joy M Thomas, Head of the Department & Director, Department of Cardiology & Cardiac Electrophysiology, Global Hospitals & Health City, Chennai made a presentation on Recent Trends in Management of Heart Failure (Management of Aneurysm) and Dr AGK Gokhale, Senior Consultant & Head of Department, Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Global Hospitals Hyderabad expressed his views on Minimal Access Bypass Surgeries. “In the event that a patient seeks medical assistance at Global Hospitals, all they have to do is contact the helpline or email the Forte group by accessing their website. To date the Forte Group has held two CME programmes, with this being the third. The first was on liver transplants and Endosonography, which was organized through the Association of Gastroenterological and Digestive Endoscopy Society of Sri Lanka. On this occasion world renowned Professor Mohammed Rela, the number one liver surgeon in the world [ mentioned in the Guinness Book of records for having performed a liver transplant on a 5 day old baby], Dr S. Palaniappan, along with the founder of Global Hospitals, Dr K. Ravindranath were the guest speakers. The second CME program was on Neuro Sciences which was organized through the Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists with the guest speakers being Dr N.K. Venkataramana, Dr J.K.B.C. Parthiban and Dr S. Dinesh Nayak.

Dr. Madhu Sankar specializes in Coronary Bypass Surgery, Valve Repair & Replacement Surgery, Surgery for Atrial Fibrillation and Heart & Lung Transplantation. He is an Executive Member of Indian Society of Heart Failure and is actively involved in Heart & Lung Transplantation and Stem Cell Therapy. He has more than 50 publications in Cardiac Surgery in international journals and was also the first in India to transport Donor Heart in a commercial airline & perform heart transplantation. He has been involved in the surgical management of over 15000 open cardiac surgical procedures – both adult and children till date.
Dr. Joy M Thomas specializes primarily in Interventional Cardiology (Complex Angioplasty, Balloon Valvuloplasty, Peripheral and Carotid Angioplasty, Stem cell interventions and Device closure of Cardiac defects, Cardiac Electrophysiology) and Electrophysiology Study (Radiofrequency Ablation, Complex Ablation Procedures – Atrial Fibrillation & Ventricular Tachycardia, Pacemaker Implants, Device – Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (Biventricular Pacemaker), Syncope Evaluation and Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention). He has been an Interventional Cardiologist since 1994 and has performed the First Radiofrequency Ablation in Tamil Nadu, India for cure of supraventricular tachycardia, 25th Jan 1997 at Railway Hospital, Perambur.
Dr AGK Gokhale has performed more than 5000 open heart surgeries and assisted in more than 4000 open heart and nearly 1000 closed heart and pulmonary surgeries. He had performed the first Heart Transplant in Andhra Pradesh, India in 2004. Along with his fellow urologist specialist he had performed a combined heart and kidney transplant for the first time in India in 2007. He has formed the Heart Failure Society in India and also the Sahrudaya Health, Medical and Educational Trust a nonprofit organization that offers financial assistance for the heart surgeries of children and adults. His special interests lies in the minimally invasive cardio thoracic surgeries, beating heart bypass surgery, and surgery for end stage heart and lung diseases.
