The second CME program was on Neuro Sciences which was organized through the Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists with the guest speakers being Dr N.K. Venkataramana, Dr J.K.B.C. He has been involved in the surgical management of over 15000 open cardiac surgical procedures – both adult and children till date.
Dr. Joy M Thomas specializes primarily in Interventional Cardiology (Complex Angioplasty, Balloon Valvuloplasty, Peripheral and Carotid Angioplasty, Stem cell interventions and Device closure of Cardiac defects, Cardiac Electrophysiology) and Electrophysiology Study (Radiofrequency Ablation, Complex Ablation Procedures – Atrial Fibrillation & Ventricular Tachycardia, Pacemaker Implants, Device – Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (Biventricular Pacemaker), Syncope Evaluation and Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention). Dr AGK Gokhale has performed more than 5000 open heart surgeries and assisted in more than 4000 open heart and nearly 1000 closed heart and pulmonary surgeries. He had performed the first Heart Transplant in Andhra Pradesh, India in 2004. Along with his fellow urologist specialist he had performed a combined heart and kidney transplant for the first time in India in 2007. He has formed the Heart Failure Society in India and also the Sahrudaya Health, Medical and Educational Trust a nonprofit organization that offers financial assistance for the heart surgeries of children and adults. His special interests lies in the minimally invasive cardio thoracic surgeries, beating heart bypass surgery, and surgery for end stage heart and lung diseases.
